Summer Vacation

We just returned home from a whirlwind trip to Michigan where we visited all of our relatives and friends. This was Olivia's first trip and it was very exciting! We started off the trip with her first plane ride, which, was also my first plane ride (solo) with a 6 month old! Let me preface this next part by saying that Olivia did remarkably well considering she decided to stay up for 9 hours straight while we went on this great jet-setting experience. She was cranky and fussy even before we left the house that day, following a too-short afternoon nap (darn, why does that always happen when you NEED them to sleep?), so already I knew I was in for an experience. Our hope was that she would continue her nap on the 30 minute car ride to the airport, but alas, this did not happen. She fussed and whined until we were pulling off the exit and THEN fell asleep. So, upon doing curbside check-in, I loaded my groggy baby into our ERGO carrier and off we went through security to wait at the gate. She was fascinated by everything and everyone at the airport. Nothing went undetected by her little eyes. She then proceeded to stay awake (enter more fussing/whining) for the entire trip! She finally fell asleep around 11:15 as we were on our way to Lambertville from the airport.

We really enjoyed our time in Michigan. Olivia got to meet so many relatives whom we don't get to see very often which was really special. We also had some playdates with friends and Olivia may have even scoped out her future husband. Overall, she got to meet over 40 new people while we were home and see some familiar faces as well. Two big events happened during our visit: Olivia got her first haircut (thank you cousin Christie!) and she turned 6 months old!

We had a fairly uneventful drive home which we chose to do over 2 days to break up the long trip. We stopped in Springfield, IL and stayed at a hotel which was a perfect halfway point. We are glad to be home and Matt and I are pretty exhausted but we had a great time. Thank you family and friends for a wonderful visit!!

Our time at home is best captured with photos so here are some of the special moments of our visit:

  2. Nice work on the blog, as usual.
It was great to see you and to meet - face to face - Oli (I want to call her Oli sometimes, mostly because of that line in the R.E.M. song, Drive. The line is "Oli, Oli, Oli, Oli, Oli,Oli, Oli, Oli, Oli, Oli,Baby."
