It's been over three years since we headed west and moved to Kansas City from the East Coast. While we LOVE Kansas City and all of the changes the last three years have brought us, we still reminisce about our wonderful time in the Metro DC area where we lived for almost 5 years. We had the chance to head back there for a short visit this past week and had a wonderful time. Things are different of course but so much is still the same. DC traffic is still congested, the monuments are still breathtaking (especially at night driving over the 14th St. Bridge!), and Old Town Alexandria is still a magical, fairy-tale like place where if money were no object we would purchase a row home there in a hearbeat! We stayed with our good friends, the Berkeley's, whom we met in Virginia. They left for awhile to move back to Michigan and have now returned to VA and live in a beautiful row home in Del Ray with their two girls and their dog, Foxy.
Despite the scorching 100 degree temps we had a great time visiting them and seeing familiar places. I even got to visit with co-workers from my last place of employment, and the gym where I taught classes for 4+ years. It was a special visit and we were grateful to share it with Olivia. Other things we did included daily walks to the park or the downtown area where the Berkeley's live; storytime at the library, and a trip to the local farmer's market.
Nathan's mom got into town the night before we left and she graciously watched all 3 kids so the four of us could go out to eat and to the boardwalk in Old Town just like old times.
Because it's nearly impossible to take photos while watching three busy children, we only took a few pictures the entire trip!

Mealtime was fabulous. Olivia was so interested in Madeleine and Isabelle that it took her over an hour to eat most meals.
